As we went in Arles to spend our « pre-christmas » hollydays, we didn’t want to get stuck in Arles… Even if it’s a wonderful city with loads of antique monuments such as the arena, we explored Glanum.
What is Glanum? First of all, it’s located in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (a small but attractive city) with nice alleys and cute restaurants. But you have to drive outskirts in order to find it. Don’t worry, you cannot miss it as a pretty high arch points out the place. Nature is everywhere around it, fields and a forest encircle the area… Perfect for hikes or picnics if the weather is mild.
Here is the arch, finely chiseled:
At the very beginning, Glanum was a Gallic city but has been influenced by Greek and Roman cultures. Its developpement started in the 2nd century BC. Pretty old, you see?
As you climb up, you have an amazing point of view of the antique site of Glanum… You’re just completely immersed in nature brigthened up with sculpted rocks, limestones, columns…
It was such a great experience, and I hope that you will have the opportunity to visit this site…
Have a nice day !
